Te Tauihu is home to 19,490 Māori, representing 12% of the district’s total population. Our whānau are comparatively well, showing the smallest life expectancy gap between Māori and non-Māori in any region - 1.2 to 1.7 years locally compared with the seven-year gap nationally.
