Cancer Services
Cancer services and pathways are accessible to, and achieve improved health outcomes for, whānau Māori
Cancer is a leading cause of illness and death for Māori, making up 25% of amenable mortality for wāhine and 10% for tāne nationally. Meaning, although preventable (with early detection and lifestyles changes), cancer is a major killer of Māori. In Te Tauihu, lung cancer is the leading cause of death for wāhine and the second for tāne. Data shows that Māori are less likely to participate preventative measures and screening services.
