Nelson Hospital cardiac lab gets $3 million upgrade
Patients across Te Tauihu are now benefiting from a $3 million upgrade to Nelson Hospital’s cardiac catheterisation laboratory (Cath Lab).
The Cath Lab is where specialist teams diagnose and treat heart conditions using imaging technology and minimally invasive procedures.
The refurbishment includes new imaging and patient monitoring technology, which helps clinicians make informed decisions and tailor treatment to individual patients.
The clinical areas have also been redesigned to create a more comfortable and welcoming environment for patients and whānau, particularly those facing unexpected heart procedures.
The upgraded facility has been blessed and is now welcoming patients, helping more people access specialist cardiac care closer to home.
Nelson Hospital redevelopment update
Work is underway on Nelson Hospital’s new 128-bed Inpatient Unit, with resource consent now granted and early construction works progressing.
Early works, expected to take around 12 months, include earthworks, service diversions, piling and ground improvements ahead of major construction. The new Inpatient Unit is expected to open in 2030.
Meanwhile, all seven modules for a separate 28-bed Interim Inpatient Unit are now in place, with work continuing on the fit-out. The unit will provide additional beds while the wider redevelopment is underway.
Construction is also affecting access and parking around the hospital campus, so patients and whānau are encouraged to check current arrangements before visiting.
Health New Zealand is providing regular updates on construction progress, changes to hospital access and upcoming works.
